This Air Merchandising Project carried over into 2012 as the Air Operations Project (baggage schema). Meetings have been suspended since mid 2012.

No air merchandising schema included in 2011A publication.
2011 Project Team accomplishments:

Reference spreadsheet of all elements/ attributes from 4 donated sets of schema (Datalex, IATA, Open Axis, Amadeus);
Weekly review of reference spreadsheet to determine elements and attributes that represent an air ancillary product/ service;
Merged with the Travel Insurance project team to ensure insurance is represented in schema as an ancillary service.

Summary:

The Air Merchandising Project is focused on creating a new set of OpenTravel schemas, including enhancements to messages and common elements that are needed to support web services required by modern air reservation systems.

Current (in-progress) work includes a definition of a traveler persona that encapsulates a traveler's

Customer Intent—what I am searching for; who am I; what is my history; what are my preferences;
Targeted Trip Purpose—including metro; business; day tripper; large party; long layover time; short layover time; long haul; leisure – adult & leisure – family
Detailed Traveler Categories—including upscale; mid-scale; budget; sky priority; loyalty plan / tier; high miles balance
Granular Traveler Brand Preferences—including hotel brand; rank & room preference; rental car type and rank

Proposal Abstract:

The initial OTA_AirGetOffer messages were released in OpenTravel's 2010B specification.

Rationale:
The airline sector has triggered an ancillary revenue (merchandising) revolution, with airlines worldwide expected to generate over $58 billion USD in ancillaries in 2010 alone. Baggage fees are one of the fast growing items in a portfolio that also includes seat allocation, inflight services and products, related travel products (including insurance, carhire and accommodation), inflight advertising, airport lounge access and increasingly diverse opportunities including concert tickets, mobile phone credits and more. A sizeable figure, $58 billion USD, represents just 12% of total airline revenues, suggesting a continuing trend to monetize services and products to passengers.
