Announcements: Meetings suspended while schema is in review. Subscribers to this project on ODN site will be notified as project status is updated. Project Page TabsSummary & MeetingsSummary: The Ground Transportation Project is chartered with defining a set of OpenTravel Service and supporting generic schemas that are closely aligned with common ground transportation industry business functionality and cover the scope of web services required to implement a ground transportation service reservation system. Additional enhancements include Add "sightseeing” day and multi-day tours. Add a “tour guide” or “driver-guide”, and a translator, and a greeter (additional vertical). This model will be completed with the “per passenger” option, instead of the “per car” fares that are currently in the schema. This will affect the inventory model as it currently has per vehicle and the schema needs to reflect it. The Shuttle service to/from airport will also use the per passenger model, instead of per car. Meetings: (suspended) The Ground Transportation Project team meets every other Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM US/Eastern, Webex.Awards recipients at OpenTravel Advisorty Forum 2012 in Miami.Owner: Transport WorkgroupTravel Sector: Ground Transportation Proposal & HistoryProject Start Date: Wednesday, January 4, 2012Target Completion Date: Saturday, June 30, 2012Project Close Date: Friday, March 30, 2012Proposal Abstract: A 2009 LeSage publication poll found that 41 percent of 400 car service ground transport operators were taking reservations through online tools, compared with 22 percent in 2005. About half of the 400 were users of software specifically designed for the limo business, which various sources described as an $8 billion to $14 billion industry. In lieu of technology adoption by this travel industry sector, this project focuses on creating a set of OpenTravel schema to support XML distribution for the personal ground transportation sector (that includes limousine, black car and personal shuttle service) and covers the scope of web services required to implement a modern personal ground transportation reservation system.
